Fender bender

A fender bender is a minor collision between two vehicles

Auto care is our Business

For example, lightly tapping another car or being rear-ended by a distracted driver. These types of minor car accidents typically occur when driving at low speeds.

Although fender benders are caused by minor accidents, they can cause major problems. Some of the damage fender benders can cause include, large dents, smoke, engine sound, gasoline smell or leaking fluid.

How to deal with a fender bender:

Stop

Stop your car in the first instance. If it is not necessary to stay where you are, move your car to a safe place and turn on your hazard warning lights. In some cases, moving can cause more damage to the vehicle. In this circumstance, leave the car where it is and turn on hazard warning lights.

Stay Calm

An unexpected accident can leave you startled. Take a few minutes to get yourself together and check if the other passengers are okay, before trying to figure out what to do.

Check for hazards

You may be disorientated after your accident. In this case, once you are calm, do a thorough check, checking mirrors before exiting the car to ensure you don’t walk into dangerous oncoming traffic.

Call the police

Make sure you have safely pulled over to the side of the road. Once parked, call 911 and report the accident. The police can produce a report for your insurance claim.

Take picture

Take pictures of any damage to your car, the other driver’s vehicle and the surrounding area.

Exchange informations

One of the most essential things after an accident is to get the other driver’s contact information. Make sure you exchange the following:

    • Name
    • Phone numbers
    • Address
    • Date of birth
    • Email address
    • Insurance company’s contact information and phone number
    • The other car’s license plate number
    • Make, model and year of the other vehicle
    • Eyewitnesses contact details

Once a police officer is on the scene, collect their badge number, phone number and report number. Request a copy of the police report for filing your insurance claim.

Contact your insurance company

Call your insurance provider to report the accident. The above information you exchanged will be used during this call.
