Frame damage is the worst type of damage a vehicle can have.
Auto care is our Business
The frame of any vehicle is the structural support system, designed to safeguard passengers in the unfortunate event of a collision. The frame gives your car strength and stability.
There is a variety of different car frames, but the most common types of frames are unibody frames and ladder frames. A unibody frame consists of the car and body being one. In contrast, a ladder frame is made up of two symmetrical rails, the same size as the car. The power and drivetrain are placed onto the frame. The frame and body are bolted together.
Types of frame damage include, sagging frames, twisted frames, sway damage and mashed frames.
Sagging Frame
Are gaps in the body of the vehicle. A car with uneven parts encourages the vehicle to lean and produce these gaps. Sagging can cause tires and coils to wear out faster due to the stress.
Twisted Frame
A twisted frame is like sagging but harder to detect. Your vehicle will need a thorough inspection. Other indicators of this type of car frame damage include difficulty in turn or an unstable feeling when driving at high speeds.
Sway Frame
Sway damage makes your vehicle significantly lean in one direction. Your vehicle will not drive in a straight line. This kind of damage is caused when any corner of your car is hit by something. If left too long, sway damage can cause transmission issues and in some cases, complete breakdown.
Mashed Frame
This type of damage is caused by head-on or rear collisions, where the car is left crumpled into itself. Defects in the rails, fender and hood might suggest damage to the frame. A mashed frame can cause sags, twists, and sway damage.
